It never ceases to amaze me that after I take that first breath after leaving the pit of a legend in music that I was actually just feet away and JUST photographed them. Most often, I get just three songs in the pit. There is no time to think about anything like even whom it may be in front of me. The only thing running through my mind is everything it takes to make the best images. Once I leave the pit, the ͞wow͟ then hits me. The greatest surprise is when I edit and see that perhaps some of my personal favorites had looked right at me and I never even knew.
It does come as a surprise to many that I only get three songs in the pit. It is a fast and furious three songs for me. there is no time to think beyond what is in front of me, the lights that change in a second and the others that may be with me in the pit. But I love every second. I admit too that being most often the only woman and a tall one at that has its perks. I know I’ve gotten images that no one else has because I tend to get singled out for ͞that͟ shot by someone on the stage. Indeed, I do love those most of all. Being up close and personal and photographing live shows truly feeds my soul in all facets of creativity. I just love it.
The minutes and days with the International Swingers during a recording session at Studio 606 was a time I shan’t forget. These men are undeniable legends. Clem Burke-Blondie, James Stevenson-The Alarm, Glen Matlock-Sex Pistols and Gary Twinn-Supernaught have been in music for decades and their talent is undeniable. The passion they had when recording was inspiring and could be felt. They were open, true and raw. I couldn’t ask for anything more.
